Swan Song
SWAN VALLEY - Robert D. Hall died June 12 at his home in Sun Lakes, Ariz. surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Bob was born April 13, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from East High School. Bob earned degrees from Iowa State University and Drake Law School and he was a veteran of the Korean War.
Bob first practiced law in Des Moines and then in Ankeny, Iowa with his father, James W. Hall, and with Robert A. Nading, retiring from the general practice of law in 2006.
Bob enjoyed the company of friends and family and could be counted on for a well-timed quip or quote to make everyone laugh and he could tell fish stories with the best. He enjoyed the many fishing trips to Grass River Provincial Park in Northern Manitoba, or the fishing trips to Sitka, Alaska, fishing trips that always included an Honorary Hall kid or two. Bob greatly enjoyed his time at the Hall cabin at Holland Lake, Mont. He thoroughly enjoyed the Race to the Sky Sled Dog Race or just simply puttering around the cabin or cruising Holland Lake on his pontoon boat, the HMS BYOB.
Bob's love for the law was surpassed only by his love for family. In his many travels with family and friends he would always make a detour to visit a state capital or county courthouse. Bob's love for his wife and family was always on display when one of his children married, when he became a grandfather or during the many family reunions held across the country. Bob married the love of his life on June 15, 1956 at the Lake Harriet Christian Church in Minneapolis, Minn.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marvel Ann Shannon Hall; their children Tiffin Hall (wife Sandi) of Eureka, Mont., Daniel Hall (wife Zoe) of Missoula, Mont., Robert Justin Hall, M.D. ("R.J" and his wife Sue) of Anchorage, Alaska, Rebecca Hall (husband Lee) of Chandler, Ariz., and Jennifer Bjork (husband Jim) of Duluth, Minn .; grandchildren Korey Hall, Lucas Hall, Meagan Wagner, Cassie Wagner, Samantha Schwartz, Katie Schwartz, Benjamin Schwartz, Jacob Schwartz, June Bjork, James Bjork and Jessa Bjork; his brother Glen Casey, his wife Nancy and their entire family who Bob was blessed to finally meet three years ago; nephews G.K. Devine, Jim Devine, Randy Devine and Kurt Yater; and Honorary Hall kids Bowen and Marci Larsen and their children, Kristen and Haley, Lance and Bonnie Leslie, and Mark Peterson and Amy Guth and their children Andrew and Alexander.
