MISSOULA - Several months ago the two voting Commissioners selected Stacy Rye as the best person – on their very first ballot – and appointed her to fill the third Commissioner’s position. Now, after working with her for only seven months, one Commissioner has said Stacy’s management style is not a good fit for the Commission and has endorsed Dave Strohmaier. The other Commissioner is not endorsing Stacy.
A county board that appears to have become dysfunctional in such a short time does not bode well for an effective county government over the next six years. I really want a Board of County Commissioners who can work together and make the best possible decisions for those of us who live in Missoula County. That is one reason I am supporting and voting for Dave Strohmaier.
Many of the supporting letters from friends and co-workers mention Stacy’s good management. I am not aware of any supporting letters from subordinates stating Stacy was a good manager or any from her previous managers.
One reason I am supporting Dave is that he is a leader, not a manager. Dave will empower staff and department directors to do the jobs they are qualified for and were hired to do, will encourage them to improve and will support them as necessary as a leader. I don’t believe he will attempt to “manage” them but he will be direct and straightforward without being abrasive or rude.
Local government is where your vote can have the most direct effect on your life.
Please join me in voting for Dave Strohmaier for Missoula County Commissioner in the primary and again in the general election in November.
