SEELEY LAKE - Four days before absentee ballots will be mailed out for the June 7 primary, the Seeley Lake Community Council will hold a Candidates Forum, so that voters will have a chance to hear the candidates, question them and make informed choices.
The Forum will take place at the Seeley Lake Community Hall Monday, May 9, starting at 5:30 p.m. with pizza and soda.
The council decided to invite not only the primary contestants but also their opposite-party challengers, so that all candidates would enjoy equal exposure.
These are the offices for which there are primaries in Seeley Lake and their respective candidates:
Public Service Commission, District 4:
Gail Gutsche (D), Mark Sweeney (D), Lee Tavenner (D), Bob Lake (R)
MT House District 92:
Larry Dunham (R), Mike Hopkins (R), Addrien Marx (D), Randy Vannoy (R)
Missoula County Commissioner:
Todd James Geery (R), Stacy Rye (D), Dave Strohmaier (D)
All candidates have said they are eager to face Seeley Lake voters and have promised to attend. The only exception is Bob Lake, who will be at a Public Service Commission meeting in Helena that day.
Like two years ago, candidates will make brief opening statements, followed by questions from the audience.
The Council plans to host another Candidates Forum for most offices later this the year, with nominees from each party facing off against each other.
After the Candidates Forum, the regular Community Council meeting will follow but it is expected to be brief.
Like always, there will be an opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items.
