Karen Kovatch - Incumbent SLE Board
Biography: We moved our family business to Seeley Lake in 1989 and I have lived here full time since 1995. I have served on the Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) Board for three years. My family here includes my parents, husband Kalvin and two children: Klaire, a seventh grade student and Klayton, a fifth grade student. My hobbies include horseback riding, cycling and skiing.
Qualifying experience or skills/strengths for the school board position:
Work: Currently working as book keeper/payroll for our timber based business.
Volunteering: Since age nine, USFS volunteer on South Fork of Flathead; everything from spraying weeds, cleaning campsites to building hitch rails.
SLE parent volunteer: Chaperoning field trips including the Naturalist Program and the Nutcracker and helping with the Run, Bike and Ski Clubs.
Certifications: Degrees in Human Resource Management and Business from Western Montana College.
Why do you want to be on the school board? Being on the board offers me an opportunity to work towards supporting a system which benefits all the students in an efficient manner.
What would you like to see changed or what issues would you address if elected? At the moment I am not aware of any issues. As always, I would be very open to discussing anyone's problems and would encourage use of the Student Handbook guidelines for resolving concerns.
What challenges to you see facing the board and the school in the near future? The biggest challenge is the balancing act between our school system and the enrichment programs made possible by grants and foundations. While these programs compliment the academic setting immensely, we must be vigilant to make sure our strong education curriculum continues.
