Elementary School Levy, Movie Shorts, Traffic Project at Next Council Meeting

SEELEY LAKE - Todd Johnson, Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) School Board Chair, will kick off the next Seeley Lake Community Council (SLCC) meeting with a discussion of the proposed SLE levy, which will be voted on in the May 3 Special Election.

Filmmaker Jenny Rohrer will follow with the presentation of two movie shorts:

“Keeping Clearwater” tells the story of the work that local volunteers and students are doing in collaboration with the Clearwater Resource Council (CRC) to learn about and protect local waters.  The film illustrates how these “citizen scientists” have collected new information on the health of our waters and have begun the work needed to restore and conserve them for the future.

“Students in Action With Climate Change” was produced by CRC in conjunction with Seeley-Swan High School (SSHS) graduate Shelby Holmes in the summer of 2015. It features three stories including the work of the SSHS students in growing local food, the “students in action” stream monitoring program and the work of Blackfoot Challenge’s drought management program. Several Seeley residents featured in the film will be present to answer questions.

There will be an update on the Council’s Traffic Project, a multi-year effort that proposes lower speed limits in Seeley Lake and more and better-marked pedestrian crossings. Missoula County and MDT have decided to work on the crossings issue locally starting in April. The Council’s speed limit proposal, modified to be implemented on a seasonal basis initially, will be submitted to the Transportation Commission in Helena in May.

Like always, there will be an opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items.

The informal part of the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, April 11 at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitors Center, with pizza and sodas.
