SWAN VALLEY - Condon Community Church sent another shipment of needed items to troops deployed in Afghanistan. Realizing that certain items are hard to get in the combat zone, church members bought and packaged boxes to ship to them. The group that received the packages had a local connection to the Swan Valley.
These care packages were sent directly to the members of the 189th Security Force of the Jacksonville Arkansas Air National Guard at Bagram Air Force Base outside Kabul, Afghanistan. A member of that unit is Tech SGT Aaron Anderson, the son-in-law of Rick and Polly Ferguson of Condon.
The unit wrote that there were more items than they needed, so they shared with others at the base too. During their six-month deployment, 60 rockets hit the base but there were no injuries. They all returned home safely in October.
The previous group at Bagram Base sustained four deaths. The group that is there now recently lost six Air Force personnel with two wounded.
"Condon Community Church has a burden for our military, active duty and veterans and try to honor them when possible," wrote Condon Community Church member Patricia Busby. "There were lots of prayers for the group while they were there and lots of happiness when they arrived back in the states."
