Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Team Off to the Races

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Team started their race season in Whitefish, Mont. Jan. 10 at the 2016 Glacier Glide. Six members of the team competed in the 15 kilometer (K) and 3.5K races with many finishing in the top five for their division.

Senior Angus Batchelder and eighth-grader Dakota Wood participated in the 15K Skate race. They were the youngest racers by more than 20 years. Batchelder finished in 11th place with a time of 46.45. Wood came in 17th with a time of 52.88.

The rest of the team members competed in the 3.5K Skate race.

Macy Williams from Ovando took first place in the girls U12 age division with a time of 19 minutes. 

Fifth-grader Klayton Kovatch won the boys U12 division by three seconds and placed second overall out of all 24 skiers with a time of 12.96.

Seventh-grader Klaire Kovatch finished three seconds ahead of Williams finishing second in the girls U14 age division with a time of 15.83. 

Sixth-grader Will Batchelder took second place in the boys U14 age division with a time of 14.87.

The next race for the Seeley Lake Nordic Team is the SLE Outside Invitational at the Seeley Lake Nordic Trails. Races start at 1 p.m.
