Blackhawks' Comebacks Come Up Short

The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks staged late game comebacks but were unable to defeat the Granite Prospectors or the Lincoln Lynx last week. The losses give the Blackhawks a 2-6 overall record for the season.

Versus Granite

The Blackhawks took on the Granite Prospectors at home Jan. 8. The Blackhawks struggled in the first quarter, missing several shots as Granite ran up an 8-point lead.

The teams went nearly point for point the next two quarters and headed into the fourth with the Blackhawks trailing by nine.

The Blackhawks chipped away at Granite, closing the gap to just three with two minutes left in the game. Jacob Haley and Joshua Cahoon fouled out as the Blackhawks tried to gain possession of the ball.

The Prospectors took advantage of the free throws and slowly pulled out of reach. Granite hit 16 of 23 free throws in the fourth quarter with 10 of those coming in the final two minutes to give the Blackhawks a 41-51 loss.

Cameron Haines led the Blackhawks with 12 points including 2, three-pointers. Haley had a pair of three-pointers contributing to his 11 points while Cahoon added 10.

Also scoring: Keaton Johnson 4; Nino Robinett 3 and Billy Bedson 1.

Versus Lincoln

The Blackhawks traveled to Lincoln Jan. 9 to take on the Lynx. The Blackhawks were outpaced in the first three quarters giving the Lynx a 20-point lead by the fourth quarter. The Blackhawks were able to turn the table in the fourth and outscored the Lynx two to one but it wasn't enough. Final score in Lincoln's favor was 66-71.

Cameron Haines led the Blackhawks with 18 points including 5, three-pointers. Joshua Cahoon and Jacob Haley both broke into double digit scoring as well with 13 each. Haley was able to hit 7 of 11 free throws.

Also scoring: Keaton Johnson 5; Nino Robinett 4; Gunner Sloan 4; Billy Bedson 4 and Gavin Mercado 2.

This Week:

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks host the Darby Tigers Jan. 15 with games starting at 2:30 p.m. The teams then head to Victor Jan. 16 to take on the Pirates with games starting at 1 p.m.
