Pilot Walks Away From Plane Crash

SEELEY LAKE – A single-engine airplane crashed while landing at the Seeley Lake Airport, Jan. 4 around 5:30 p.m. The pilot walked away with no injuries.

According to Missoula County Sheriff’s Sergeant Robert Parcell the airplane was landing from the north. When it touched down on the plowed runway, it was too far left of the center. The left tire was sucked into the left hand snow berm, spinning the plane 180 degrees and slamming the right wing into the berm. The pilot kept the plane upright and was uninjured.

The Seeley Lake Volunteer firefighters and Quick Response Unit along with Missoula Emergency Services, Inc. responded. Seeley Lake Fire Chief Bob Vanden Heuvel turned them all around after determining there were no injuries or a fire hazard.

Sgt. Parcell said the pilot was an experienced pilot from Alaska who was current on all his certifications. He was coming to visit Seeley Lake. No one else was in the plane.

The crash was reported to the Federal Aviation Administration.
