Salmon Prairie School Students Perform Swan Valley Version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"

SALMON PRAIRIE - On Dec. 22, six Salmon Prairie students in grades kindergarten to eighth grade presented their own production of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Parents, friends and community members filled the one-room schoolhouse to attend the traditional Christmas program, enjoy fellowship and indulge in holiday treats.

Starting after Thanksgiving, the students worked together to write their script based on the story "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." They changed the location of the story to the Swan Valley and renamed the town Louville and its inhabitants Lous. The students also painted the scenery to go with their story.

Narrator Levi Webb told the audience that the Grinch lived to the east of Louville, located off of Salmon Prairie Road on Highway 83 between the Swan and Mission Mountains. The Grinch whose "heart was two sizes too small but whatever the reason his heart or his shoes, he stood [on Swan Peak] hating the Lous."

The play was interspersed with traditional Christmas tunes sung by the students including Twelve Days of Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and the Grinch, played by Addie Anderson, played guitar and sang "Country Christmas."

Kesha the parrot played by Sarah Hughes, drew chuckles from the audience when she repeated 'party' and 'presents' each time the words were used.

The play ended with the Grinch returning the gifts he stole and the cast wishing all a Merry Christmas.

Children were treated to the appearance of Mr. and Mrs. Claus who arrived from Missoula with gifts and treats for them.
