Business of the Week
Goal: Owner Bud Jewett's goal is to provide reasonably priced matting and framing services in the Seeley Lake area.
History: Jewett has been matting and framing for he and his wife Chris's photography business (Silentwings Photography) for the past 15 years. When local framer Sandy Irons moved from the area, Jewett decided to do matting and framing as a business.
"I've always enjoyed making artwork look its best with the right color mat and frame," said Jewett. "The matting and framing should always enhance the artwork, not distract from it."
Jewett works out of the studio in his home where he stocks all the mats, glass and frame corners. While he is the sole employee, Chris helps with color consulting on mat colors and framing choices when needed.
Products and Services: Bud's Matting and Framing offers framing options for anything from photographs, to paintings to canvas artwork. He has even framed artwork done on t-shirt material and old fabric.
"Just depending on what it is, it will take a different kind of framing material and I discuss with the client as to what kind of frame will be needed and what they want," said Jewett.
Jewett measures the piece to be framed and has the frames custom made to fit. All kinds of wood frames are available, from oak to pine to barnwood and fancy filigree type framing moldings. Jewett then color-coordinates the mats to the artwork and cuts his own mats and glass to size.
"This whole process is custom to whatever is needed," said Jewett.
