Doris Ann "Petie" Peterson Luckman 1930 ~ 2015

SEELEY LAKE - Petie was born April 30, 1930 in Missoula, Mont. to Idella Josephine Hamilton Peterson and Irwin "Pete" Earl Peterson. Petie passed into eternity with her family surrounding her Dec. 4.

She attended grade school at Lincoln School in the Rattlesnake and graduated from the Missoula County High School in 1948. ln high school she was active in Girls Club, Pep Club, tumbling team, tennis and swimming.

Petie attended college at University of Montana (UM) in Missoula and graduated with a B. S. degree in Forestry (only woman in the nation in 1952, fifth from UM). In college she was active in Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Aquamaids, Spurs, Women's M Club, Associated Women's Service and Forestry Club.

Petie worked for the Forest Service early in her career, was a swimming instructor at the YMCA and Smelter Hill pools, then managed Luckman Therapy Clinic in Great Falls for 27 years. While working and raising her family she served actively in Junior League (president in 1968), Camp Fire Girls, PTA, Little League Baseball (concessions and scorekeeping), 20th Century Book Club, Episcopal Church of the Incarnation and ECW, League of Women Voters, PEO and various other civic organizations.

Petie was married to Joe Oliver Luckman in 1951, they were married 37 years, and partners in life and business for 50 years. She has three surviving children: Greg Luckman (Jean); Kimberly Luckman McCann (Kelly) and Margot Luckman. Grandchildren: Tiana Luckman Stringer (Jason); Joseph R. Luckman (Nicole); Lexi McCann Abolofia (Greg); Christine McCann Ross (Kory); Hannah Hart and Tali Deneault (Eric). In addition she is survived by seven great grandchildren plus one on the way. Numerous additional nieces and nephews and their families were very important to Petie. Petie was preceded in death by her sister Jean "Pete" Hamre and her brother-in-law Vern Hamre.

Petie lived in Great Falls, Montana from 1953 to 1988, then she moved to Seeley Lake, Mont. and resided at Lake Inez. In Seeley Lake Petie was active in book and bridge clubs, Alpine Artisans, and Sons and Daughters of Lake Inez. Petie worked nine years for Inez Lake Property Owners, ILPO, negotiating with the Forest Service and Plum Creek resulting in expanded private ownership. She was a woman of the land and a good neighbor and friend.

Petie's joys in life included relationships with her family, friends and community. She was an avid reader, business administrator and outdoor enthusiast enjoying camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing, mushrooming, huckleberry picking, back packing and horsemanship (which was the way of life in her first 20 years on her parent's dairy farm). Petie always walked reverently and privately in the ways of Christianity and this was reflected in her humbleness, integrity and character.

A celebration of Petie's life will be held at the Seeley Lake Community Hall, 3248 Hwy 83 at noon on Dec. 11. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice or the Alpine Artisans Scholarship Fund. Messages of condolence may be left for Petie at http://www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
