Roger Miller of Stevensville, Mont., son of Jerry and Carol Miller of Seeley Lake, took this 5X5 mule deer just before 1 p.m. Nov. 20. The deer was taken on "The Mountain" with his long-time friend Seeley Lake resident George Welch. Miller said, "George and I have followed in the foot steps of our fathers since the 70s and we have enjoyed a great deal of success "off the beaten path". We laugh, tell stories and make fun of how old we've gotten but one thing is for sure. You don't have to have a special permit to kill a big buck. They still roam "the mountain" east of town if you're willing to work for one.

His grandma Geanette said, "What a lucky kid for his first year of hunting. He's tough though. Got up early every morning, even in the subzero weather and hiked miles and miles."
