Community Center Projects and Plans

POTOMAC - The Potomac/Greenough Community Center (PGCC) in Potomac is undergoing changes and improvements. Jeanne Hall, PGCC chair, said the projects will support and benefit all the groups that use the center. The center has been in use since 1978.

Among the many groups using the PGCC is Potomac School, which uses the facility for two classrooms, physical education and sports in the gym and as a lunchroom. The Potomac Valley 4-H Club also uses the building for 4-H meetings and the Potomac/Greenough Food Bank utilizes the building to distribute food.

Last summer several projects were completed outside the PGCC. The building exterior was stained and the garden beds were renovated. New timbers were added for the garden border, a weed barrier was put down as well as mulch and decorative rock and the installation of a timed sprinkler.

Before the new school year began, the PGCC Board of Directors completed interior work including new paint in the two classrooms, locker installation in the bathrooms and a new smoke alarm system was installed.

Improvement goals for the PGCC include: continual maintenance; kitchen updates; present bleacher removal to the athletic field and retractable bleachers installed; repainting in the gym; extending padding on the end walls of the gym and looking over the lighting and sound systems.

The improvements are funded through various fundraisers and donations.

Upcoming PGCC events include Family Fridays, Bunco game nights and Christmas Comes Home as well as exercise classes and Bingo.
