Veterans Honored in Seeley Lake

SEELEY LAKE - More than 50 people gathered at the Seeley Lake Veterans Memorial on Nov. 11 to honor local veterans and celebrate Veterans Day. Junior high students from Seeley Lake Elementary walked from the school to participate in the ceremony.

Veterans & Families of Seeley Lake (VFSL) hosted the event and VFSL President Barbara Knopp gave the address. "We celebrate this day, we honor veterans today because we know that without them, there would be no land of the free," said Knopp.

Knopp challenged those in attendance to honor veterans by taking an active part in maintaining freedom in America, teaching future generations about what it means to be an American; volunteering in the community; taking care of veterans and their families; voting in elections and making America the best it can be.

Following the ceremony, those in attendance thanked those who had served and many of the students were seen reading the plaques. One student found the name of his uncle that he did not realize had served. For others it was the first time they had ever taken the time to read the plaques.

"All of our veterans have protected our democracy, our freedom and our way of life," said Knopp. "Without our veterans, we wouldn't be where we are today. Thank you for honoring our veterans on this day."
