Lady Blackhawks Wrap up Season at Divisionals

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks' season came to an end at the Western C Divisional Tournament in Butte, Mont. Nov. 6.

The Lady Blackhawks lost their opening match of the tournament to Gardiner. The loss put the Ladies into the loser's bracket.

The girls kept themselves in the tournament with a win against Charlo before being eliminated by Plains.

The championship match pitted Gardiner against Manhattan Christian. Gardiner was defeated in the match forcing a second match as the teams had one loss each. Manhattan Christian repeated the victory and won the Western C Divisional Championship. Both teams advanced to the state tournament in Bozeman Nov. 12-14.

Versus Gardiner - Nov. 5

The Lady Blackhawks' first match was against last year's State Champions, the Gardiner Bruins. The Ladies trailed by a couple of points in the first half of game one, nearly tying it at 15 but were unable to hold back the Bruins who rallied to take the game 16-25.

In game two the Lady Blackhawks took a small lead early on but were unable to capitalize on it. The Bruins stopped them up and won the game, 17-25.

The Lady Blackhawks fell behind in the final game, unable to stop the Burins from the sweeping them into the loser's bracket with a 13-25 loss.

Paige Holmes led the Ladies with 18 digs and 11 assists. Alex Bohlman led in kills with 9. Tyana Murphy, Delaney Holzworth and Kyndee Schmitz all had 1 ace each. Both Murphy and Schmitz also made 100 percent of their serves good. Murphy served 11 and Schmitz served 8 with no errors. The Lady Blackhawks had no stuff blocks in the match.

Versus Charlo - Nov. 6

The Lady Blackhawks met the Charlo Vikings in their next match. The Ladies took the first game with a narrow margin, 25-22. After pounding the Vikings 25-10 in game two the Lady Blackhawks went on to take game three 25-17, eliminating Charlo from the tournament.

The Lady Blackhawks were led by Paige Holmes with 10 kills, 13 digs, 3 stuff blocks and 8 aces. Alex Bohlman led with 11 assists. Autumn Morse had the most successful returns with 9.

Versus Plains - Nov. 6

The Lady Blackhawks' next challenger was Plains. The Ladies put up a good fight but could not overcome Plains losing three games straight, 21-25, 24-26 and 19-25. The loss eliminated the Lady Blackhawks from the tournament and ended their season.

"We had a shot at taking Plains," said Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis. "In the end it wasn't meant to be but I am so proud of this group of young ladies."

Paige Holmes led the Lady Blackhawks with 8 kills, 20 digs and 2 stuff blocks. Alex Bohlman had 10 assists while Delaney Holzworth served 2 aces.

The Lady Blackhawks final season record was 16-8.

"This was really a great season for us overall," said Coach Lewis. "To make it to divisionals and get at least one win was a good outcome."

Lewis is excited to see where the team goes next year. She expects seven of the Ladies that played in the divisional tournament will return next year while four seniors are graduating.
