Information Sought on Vandalism at Placid Lake State Park

GREENOUGH - Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is looking for tips on a vandalism and theft that occurred at Placid Lake State Park. A change machine was stolen from the firewood vending machine sometime Saturday. Oct. 31 or Sunday, Nov. 1.

State Park Manager Ryan Sokoloski said that normally the change machine is removed by Oct. 30. However, this year they decided to leave it open through the weekend as a convenience for campers. They had planned to remove it Monday, Nov. 2.

“I’m really disappointed this has happened,” said Sokoloski. “There was very little money in the machine because it is managed on a daily basis.”

Despite the small amount of money that was stolen, Sokoloski said it will cost $1,300 to replace the machine. “Unfortunately, replacing it will come out of our operations budget, our budget for maintenance and repairs,” added Sokoloski.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668) or contact FWP’s Chris Hamilton at 406-210-7513. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to a conviction.
