Business of the Week
Goal: Great Bear Properties strives to look after the best interest of their customers as a dual agency representing both buyers and sellers. Owner Kim Koppen asks lots of questions to help buyers find the best fit that suits their needs and offers sellers the best representation of fair market value and gets the best price for their property. "I want to be a source of information because that's my expertise," said Koppen. "People appreciate that I take the time to listen for what is important to them. It's not about me making a sale; it's about finding what works for them."
History: Koppen moved with her family to Seeley Lake in 1995. She got her real estate license in 1997 to supplement her part-time work teaching Spanish at Seeley-Swan High School. In-house broker Wes Newbold hired Koppen the following spring to work for Great Bear Properties, located in the north end of the Lazy Pine Mall.
Koppen was on the cutting edge of website technology launching kimkoppen.com in 1998 inside of Great Bear Properties. She earned her broker's license in 2002 and worked as the broker for one year before purchasing Great Bear Properties from owner/broker Frank Williams of Missoula Reality in 2003.
Koppen has had up to five agents working for her at a time and she has always had an assistant. She moved to the south end of the mall in 2013 to her current location. Currently Koppen is the only agent and her first full time assistant Carrie Sokoloski that has been with her since 2014.
"With an assistant, I can focus on the selling," said Koppen. "That is the best part about my job--- the people that I get to work with." Find a realtor that has the heart of a teacher is one of my favorite quotes because you are teaching and educating people about the process of buying a home. That's what I love."
Products & Services: Great Bear Properties sells properties within a 50-mile radius of Seeley Lake including Missoula to people from all over the country. While Koppen is licensed to sell anywhere in the state, she feels it is important to sell where she has the expertise.
All of Great Bear Properties listings are online on both the website and through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). All Missoula County agents that are a part of the MLS agree to cooperation and compensation allowing them to show each other's listings.
