Business of the Week
Goal: Eagle Port Lodge provides comfortable, elegant lodging for fly-in or drive-in guests located in the heart of Seeley Lake's recreational opportunities. With full kitchens and spacious rooms overlooking the Seeley Lake Airport to the west and mountains to the east, owner Brian Bertsch said, "Even if you live in town it's a great get away. Experience something local. Experience the Tower."
History: Owners and operators Brian and Kerry Bertsch "took a stab at living and investing in Seeley Lake" in 1996. They were able to purchase the property on the east side of the Seeley Lake airstrip directly across the runway from the main entrance in 1997. While their original intentions were just to build a 40 X 80 foot hanger, when they started construction in 2002, they decided to build lodging above the hanger to cater to fly-in and drive-in guests. "Then we thought, wouldn't a tower be cool," said Brian. "The tower is the most unique part about this place."
Doing most of the construction on their own, the Bertsches built the hanger large enough for three planes on each side and five rental units including a tower. The tower was modeled after a fire lookout with a spiral staircase and full catwalk around the outside.
They officially opened in 2012. After securing a state lease, they are the only piece of property for visitors to stay with direct access to the airstrip. They have two part-time employees year-round and hire as needed on busy weekends during the summer.
"Our decision [to move to Seeley Lake] has exceeded our expectations in quality of life for us and our kids," said Kerry. "The area's uncompromised beauty and the richness in its people will never let us stray far."
Products and Services: Eagle Port Lodge offers two, two-bedroom units; two, single-bedroom units and the tower for rent year round. Renters have the convenience of a full kitchen in each unit, hanger space and a courtesy car for fly-in guests and access to Internet. During the summer there is a three-night minimum stay requirement. Eagle Port offers off-season specials during the winter.
