SEELEY LAKE - Gerald A. Estes Sr., 90 of Green Street, Au Sable Forks, N.Y. passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7 at AMC-Uihlein, Lake Placid, N.Y.
Gerald was born in Au Sable Forks April 22, 1925, the son of the late Sidney and Theresa (Carpenter) Estes. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept.15, 1944 to July 31, 1946. Gerald served in Central Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star medal.
Gerald married Theresa E. Warner on Feb. 18, 1950 in St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville, N.Y. Theresa predeceased him on July 29, 2004.
Gerald loved his life on the family farm, especially his sheep. He drove truck for the Town Of Jay and Rodney Estes loggings. In later years, he was a custodian for the pace Setters on PAFB and Holy Name School.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents; wife Theresa; his sister Bettie Murphy; brothers-in–law Ed Murphy and Paul "Nick" Stephenson and daughter in-law Sandi Estes.
Gerald is survived by two daughters Carolyn (Mike) Fitsimmons of Au Sable Forks and Kathleen (Steve) Thompson of Seeley Lake; son Gerald "Jerry" Estes of Wilmington; siblings Beatrice (Francis) Fressie, Rodney (Alberta) Estes and Celia Stephenson and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are five grandchildren Carolee (Mike) Barber, Nick (Kari) Fitzsimmons, Megan (Tim) Manning, Casey (Jenn) Thompson, Cory (Renita) Thompson and eleven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the North Jay Cemetery, Stickney Bridge Road in Au Sable Forks, N.Y.
