Harvest Dinner in Potomac Brings 'Em In

POTOMAC - Potomac and Greenough communities held their traditional harvest potluck dinner the evening of Oct. 17. The event took place at the Potomac/Greenough Community Center (PGCC). The Blackfoot Home and Community Club (BHCC), Potomac Bible Church and the Blackfoot Church of Potomac hosted the event.

Attendees brought side dishes or salads according to last name and the BHCC provided desserts, breads and ham.

Pastor Carrie Benton of the Blackfoot Church of Potomac led the community in prayer before they ate with the more than 109 friends, family, neighbors and strangers who took part in the event.

Due to declining attendance in previous years, the dinner was not held last year. The 16 BHCC members cancelled last year's event to see what feedback might indicate. Potomac residents wanted it back. So the BHCC along with community center supporters brought it back along with new ideas including booths and auctions.

Booths representing Missoula Aging Services, Time for Tots, The Greenough/Potomac Volunteer Fire Department and The Blackfoot Church of Potomac lined walls providing information. The local quilt guild, the Blackfoot Valley Peacemakers, displayed quilts. The Summer Reading Program, Potomac Valley 4-H Club, the Blackfoot Challenge, Blackfoot Church of Potomac, the BHCC and the Greenough/Potomac Food Bank had information and pictures as well.

Children attending the Harvest Dinner made crafts at the Potomac Bible Church table while Pastor Steve Fawcett made balloon hats until he auctioned off the pies.

The Potomac School eighth grade class held a pie auction as part of their efforts to raise funds for their class trip in the spring of 2016 to the Catalina Marine Institute. Some pies brought up to $50 each.

The PGCC provided forms for community members offering a variety of activities, contact information and listed projects that would benefit the community to gain input from residents. PGCC projects include repairing the building electrical and heating system, updating the kitchen, padding for the gym walls, fold-in bleachers, a community garden and a covered ramp for shed access as well as the main objective which is a gathering place for community.
