I fail to see the value in Roxie Sterling’s frequent, vitriolic diatribes denigrating democrats. We know all too well where she stands on the issues facing this country. Her incessant belittling of people and their opinions, that do not concur with her own, will do nothing to change the political landscape nor will it serve to unite the various factions. Please Roxie do everyone (that includes you) a favor and utilize your time in a more productive endeavor such as going out and registering voters and desist with the tiresome letters. S...
This morning I spent picking up yard signs with Carter and thinking about all the many people who helped the campaign be a great success, and you are one of them. We still have a journey ahead, but last night was a major victory, we won the primary with 68% of the vote, and I have you all to thank for that. There were thousands of postcards and hand written notes mailed, thousands of phone calls made and doors knocked, 150 yard signs delivered, numerous letters to the editor, I can’t tell you how many emails and social media posts went out a...
As I watched the national news over the past couple of weeks, I was reminded of the Darwin Awards. According to the rules posted on the Darwin Awards website, nominees for the award “significantly improve the gene pool by eliminating themselves from the human race in an obviously stupid way.” Furthermore, “they are self-selected examples of the dangers inherent in a lack of common sense,” and represent an “astounding misapplication of judgment.” I suspect the leading candidate for a 2020 “Darwin Group Award” will be all those people who chos...
SEELEY LAKE - When deciding the proposed sewer, I hope the conservative, financially and socially responsible citizens of Seeley consider this: • Combined utility, water and sewer costs per user is likely to be THREE times what’s considered a normal/fair rate...unless we beg for more grants and hope for help from somewhere. [Montana Dept. of Natural Resources and Conservation / Pathfinder article “Annual assessment may double” 05/28/2020] • Is now really the right time to saddle the village of Seeley with a never-ending debt? We are in the mi...
The county has taken some great steps on jail diversion to break the cycle of addiction and misdemeanor arrest but we need statewide leadership on this issue, especially in the office of the Montana Attorney General, the state’s chief law enforcement officer. Kimberly Dudik has a proven record of reforming our criminal justice system. She held offenders accountable and protected vulnerable populations as a Deputy Gallatin County Attorney and an Assistant Attorney General under Attorney Governor Steve Bullock. As a private attorney, Dudik f...
In my opinion Obama and Biden are clear up to then necks in the deep state swamp. They interfered in the Trump campaign and in the presidency of our President Donald Trump. Other presidents left the White House gracefully and kept their mouth shut so the new president could get on with the agenda he ran on and was voted into office for by the American people. Obama does not care about the will of the American people. He made sure he left his liberal leftwing people to criminally undermine our duly elected president. Obama still can’t keep h...
As Montana enters the second stage of reopening, we still have a long, slow recovery ahead of us. Missoula Aging Services (MAS) has seen first-hand how difficult this crisis has been for older Montanans, especially those already struggling with limited resources. We’ve seen a significant increase in demand for our Nutrition Services and many of our older neighbors, who are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus, often live alone and can’t receive assistance from friends or family due to social distancing. John is a MAS client who depends on...
Unemployment rates are soaring and millions of Americans are unemployed. We need a leader who will put these Americans first and that’s exactly what Senator Steve Daines is doing. Daines is working on legislation to protect the American worker by extending President Trump’s 60-day travel ban for people trying to enter the United States. As we reopen our economy, Americans who lost their jobs due to the pandemic should be the first in line to fill open jobs - not immigrants. We need to protect our own first at this point in time and that mea...
As someone who has spent my career in the private sector, nonprofit sector and two decades in public service for the state of Montana, including working for Governor Brian Schweitzer, I am supporting Whitney Williams for Governor and her running mate Buzz Mattelin. As a team they bring exactly what I believe Montana needs to move forward at this very difficult time. Whitney and Buzz are leaders and problem solvers with vast experience in Montana and beyond. They will consider the needs of all of Montana, including small and rural towns often...
I saw this on social media and thought it spoke to the divide in our nation. “How sad it must be believing that scientists, scholars, historians, economists and journalists have devoted their entire lives to deceiving you while a reality TV star with decades of fraud and exhaustively documented lying is your only beacon of truth and honesty.” @christophurious...
If a Democrat is elected as president we will see socialism and then communism, faster than going down a greased slide. I watched in dismay as I saw democratic governors take on communistic rules to control their states. Is this a practice run for their future plans? Some things we need to do and not do: 1. We need to bring back industry from China, especially medical. 2. Do not sell any more property to China. Communist China is not our friend. 3. Fire Cristopher Wray and clean house in the FBI. 4. Prosecute Comey, McCabe, Hillary, Peter Strzo...
I am writing to ask you to join me and support Kimberly Dudik to be Montana’s next Attorney General. Kimberly has the type of wide ranging experience, being an attorney for nearly 18 years practicing both civil and criminal law, that Montana needs in its Attorney General. Not only is she an attorney, Kimberly has led key reforms to protect children from sexual abuse, stop human trafficking and reform our criminal justice system so more people receive the treatment they need for chemical dependency and mental health issues that all too often lea...
Our Governor Steve Bullock has made an error in judgment with his decision to force Montana landlords into canceling evictions and extending rental payments. What Bullock fails to realize is that although most tenants will eventually pay the rents that are owed, some will stay in the rental as long as they can before sneaking out. This does not take into account those late charges the landlord might still have to pay on related loans. Because of the fact that the Governor is not willing to cover these expenses that he has forced onto landlords,...
For whatever it’s worth, this is for whom I’m voting in selected Democratic Primary races and why. One of the most important votes you will cast is for Montana Supreme Court (at the end of the ballot). Most people ignore it, so your vote will carry extra weight. Mike Black is by far the superior candidate. He enjoys the support of six of the retired Supreme Court Judges (out of seven). The incumbent is essentially a puppet for the Koch organization. State Auditor (really the Insurance and Securities Commissioner): Shane Morigeau. Shane is a v...
We are all familiar with the adage, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Juanita Vero is the exception. Vero, who is running to maintain her seat as Missoula County Commissioner, is the real deal. Juanita Vero is representative of the working landscape and rural values we love and cherish. She was raised on the back of a horse and received her early education in a two-room schoolhouse and in the wonders of the Blackfoot River Valley. She’s a fourth generation Montana dude rancher, cooperative conservationist, daughter, friend and...
Montana families and businesses may have some difficult times ahead. It’s clear that Al “Doc” Olszewski (R) is the man to serve as Governor. Dr. Al is a Christian, husband, father, Air Force veteran, physician, businessman and state Senator. I personally know all three of the candidates. Dr. Al is the most qualified and willing to defend our rights. Dr. Al is a patriotic conservative whose life was built on service and sacrifice. He holds the experience of making tough decisions, building coalitions and upholding our U.S. and Montana Const...
There has rarely been such an easy decision about which candidate to support in an election as we are faced with in Missoula County’s upcoming contest for County Commissioner. Juanita Vero, in her first year in office, has brought vigor, energy and transparency not seen before to that position. She has genuinely revitalized the Board of County Commissioners. I have known Juanita for many years. She has always impressed me with her intelligence and her dedication to the land and the people living on it. Her track record of volunteerism and p...
MISSOULA - Shannon O’Brien has our votes for Montana Senate District 46, not just because she is the most qualified candidate (which she is with 25 years of experience in public education and experience as a small business owner) but because of her experience in and dedication to building consensus across groups with multiple viewpoints in areas that concern all Montanans (i.e., climate, education, health and housing). We have known and worked with Shannon for almost 15 years and the trait we have seen her exhibit consistently and e...
To the Seeley Lake Elementary School Board Yesterday, I was informed that SLE will not resume as usual for the remaining school semester. Two of my grandchildren are currently receiving home schooling as required. One of my questions is how are you holding students accountable for handwriting and math assignments? Are these assignments graded and by what standard reflect your expectations? Another concern is how are the students being evaluated to determine they are ready to advance to the next grade? How are you ensuring students are passing...
Monica Tranel is a highly skilled lawyer who specializes in utility law and has practiced in front of the Public Service Commission (PSC) and in the courtroom defending consumers. She is full of energy. A two-time competitor in the Olympics, Tranel won a World Championship Gold for the U.S. Women’s Rowing Team. She will be the first Commissioner in years representing Montanans and not the giant corporations who shamelessly extort Montana’s utility customers with totally unwarranted rate hikes. Tranel will also be a powerful advocate for ren...
For the past several weeks, we Americans have been told we must stay at home. We have been told we cannot attend church. We have been told we cannot assemble in groups larger than ten. The state of Maryland has deployed drones to enforce social distances on people’s private property. In Wisconsin, a mother was cited for allowing her young daughter for playing outside in the front yard and notation was made in the police report of the incident the mother was being “uncooperative!” A Jewish family in New Jersey was told they could not condu...
Researchers say it takes 21 days to develop new habits. In that time, we’ve seen bewildering changes in our communities and around the world. What habits have we formed and which will endure? Despite the travel bans, quarantines, isolation and tragedy – and the roller coaster of emotions that follow, we’re seeing firsthand the exponential value of Nature in her simplest forms. In the last 21 days, we’ve seen many new faces connecting with the power of Nature and the emotional, mental and physical healing she provides. Listening to a creek,...
I support Kimberly Dudik for Attorney General because she is the most experienced candidate in the race. She is an accomplished state legislator who has a proven record of getting bipartisan bills passed. Those bills that she helped push through Republican dominated legislatures will help end human trafficking, expand access of chemical dependency and mental health resources, promote safety and inclusion in schools and communities and end the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women in Montana. That record proves she can work with and...
Mike Black has the abilities and personal qualities one hopes for in a Supreme Court justice. I and other lawyers had the pleasure of working with him for several years on a major complex case over the destruction of grocery employees’ pensions. Working with Mike, I learned that he is a highly intelligent analytical thinker who is hardworking and very committed to his clients. He has excellent judgment. Mike, a fourth generation Montanan, was raised at Havre in a railroad family and supported himself through school by working as a dishwasher, j...
Beyond restarting POW-MIA recovery operations, we must heal our country and adapt to our earth. Healing means building trust and ending graft, the unscrupulous use of public office for personal advantage. By disqualifying candidates who accept donations larger than the $1740 filing fee, I hope to unburden officials from seeking financial benefactors. Healing requires building bridges of mutual respect with my fellow U.S. Senators. As an Abraham Lincoln Republican I look forward to serving with the Honorable Jon Tester as Montana’s Junior S...
