I understand that I am the Seeley Lake Rural Fire District Board problem scapegoat now and unfortunately whatever I say is going to be seen as some kind of attack. I would like to point out that some of the things Scott Kennedy is claiming I said [at the May 17 Fire Board meeting - see “Public Comment” page 9] were actually brought to light by a different public voice during their comment time. So, who is bad at research and uninformed? I did not make the administrative assistant quit. Nothing I’ve ever said was directed at the admin...
My husband Larry Weatherman left this world for a far better one in late April. I do not remember ever coming into Seeley without being asked about him and also about me. You were so kind, so genuine. You kept after me to take care of myself, you offered your help, brought food, hugged me and sometimes cried with me. From all of us, we are so glad this difficult journey took place at home, in a small town with a very big heart....
It is disturbing today to see in the media what we all now take for granted that this is the new normal. We are getting used to saying what used to be wrong is now right and what was right is wrong. We see divisiveness over moral issues polarizing us all in areas of social justice, increasing crime, right to life, education, government control, lawlessness, immoral leaders, world war and elections. In the 1960’s the Supreme Court took out prayer and the Bible in public schools and kids are no longer taught the Ten Commandments and the truth tha...
This is a parody of “A Drinking Song” by William Butler Yeats Wine comes in at the mouth And love comes in at the eye; That’s all we shall know for truth Before we grow old and die. I lift the glass to my mouth, I look at you, and I sigh.” Good jokes come in at the ear Enjoyed over a beer I toast you in the morn You look at me with scorn I love you from afar Perhaps the corner bar MD Marshall, May 2016...
Everyone wants to stay healthy and independent as they age. We want that for our friends and families. And we want it for ourselves. That’s why it’s so important that Missoula County residents vote FOR the Missoula Aging Services (MAS) Levy on the June 7 primary election ballot. As past Board Members, we know how vitally important MAS programs are to the older adults in our community. We’ve seen firsthand the difference MAS services can make, whether it’s a hot meal, help to understand Medicare, in-home care services or a support group for fami...
As someone who has grown up in Montana, the wilderness has always been something that I have found profoundly beautiful. I have witnessed first hand the majesty of landscapes such as the Bob Marshall, Scapegoat and Mission Mountain Wilderness. As someone who has fished, floated and explored many parts of the Blackfoot River, I find it important to keep the area alive and pristine for every future generation of Montanan. In putting forward the idea of community, the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act shows that people with different roots and...
In last week’s Pathfinder, Missoula City-County Health Department Air Quality Specialist Ben Schmidt said the reason for the proposed zone is to address wood smoke, something research has proven to be a negative impact on people’s health. Does anyone else find it odd that the government wants to regulate smoke emissions from a wood stove, but have no problem letting the forest burn all summer? The amount of smoke we choke on during the summer months far exceeds that which we ingest during the winter months. It just goes to show, that most eve...
Following the discussion on COVID-19 vaccination for the last month is rather disappointing. I like to think that when an expert speaks, it’s worth listening. I am not an expert on the subject and it sounds like neither is Mike Marshall. That is okay. Opinions are great. I have no clue what Marshall’s background is so I will assume he is just another average concerned citizen. However, considering the topic, I will consider Dr. John Farrar the expert on the subject. Not the only expert I listen to but a very well spoken expert that helps us ave...
I very much appreciate Seeley Lake Elementary Superintendent/Principal Josh Gibbs allowing people who wanted to pray for the school and the children of Seeley Lake to enter the building. It’s just incredible to me that we have devolved into not wanting people to pray over our schools and children. I’m thankful that someone had the sense to appreciate that the group wanted to do that. If the reason for not allowing it is that it “is opening the floor to all types of religious groups,” I would say, “So?” If it becomes a security issue, then...
Mike Marshall’s opinion letter last week was directed at me regarding “vaccine conspiracies.” He started by referencing “flat-earth theories,” “Israeli space lasers,” “windmills causing cancer,” “microchips in vaccines,” etc. Was Marshall implying that what I have written is in the same category as evil windmill theories? Marshall wrote, “What you won’t see backing [the theories] up are hard facts. What you won’t see is a citation to a study or straight factual report that documents and backs up the assumption in the theory. No supporting e...
Older Missoula County residents and their families owe a big “thank you” to our County Commissioners. On March 10th, the Commission voted unanimously to place a levy on the June 7th Primary Election ballot. The levy will boost support to vital Missoula Aging Services (MAS) programs, such as Meals On Wheels, which are under stress as our population grows older. The Missoula County Commission established MAS in 1982 to “promote the independence, dignity and health of older adults, and those who care for them.” However, this mission has become...
In the last several years, so many folks (and some of them are well intentioned) have floated so many unfounded ideas. We have been subjected to flat-earth theories, Israeli space lasers causing wild fires in our western state forests, windmills causing cancer, Microchips planted in vaccines to track you and the new COVID-19 vaccines causing thousands of deaths covered up by government agencies. Sadly, these theorists too often know how to push our emotional buttons and they know how to allude to something by use of innuendo and...
The Bob Marshall Wilderness is a roadless tract of land that spreads over 1,009,352 acres north of Ovando. South of its designated boundary, Monture Creek, an important tributary of the Blackfoot River, flows through a remarkably roadless area. An area needs to be roadless to be a designated wilderness. Monture Creek past the campground is roadless already and an access point to the greater Bob Marshall area. Additionally, Monture Creek is recognized by Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks as a primary spawning stream for two species of concern,...
Vaccine Fearmongers: Is the pot calling the kettle black? Recall, in the early days of the pandemic, it was government spokespeople who drove the whole population into a state of panic and fear. The “authorities” understood early that COVID was dangerous (severe disease and death) for only a small slice of the population (less than 10%); mostly older people with “co-morbidities”. People under the age of 60 in good health were at very little risk of serious disease or death. If you excluded the COVID-“susceptible”, more people died from the flu...
So many (perhaps well-intentioned folks) have been spreading fear about the Covid-19 vaccinations via social media and news sources. Many of these are politicians and talking news heads. Alas, a very few have even been medical personnel or retired medical staffers. By and large, our medical care professionals across the country and certainly here in Missoula County have been buried in dealing with the effects of so much fear and misinformation. As an antidote, here’s some truth: The CDC does in fact maintain a database known as the Vaccine Adve...
This is just a heads up “ FYI “ in reference to the free home COVID-19 test kits being handed out by the Seeley Lake Fire Department. Per an alert on national news, the test kits have a toxic chemical in the ingredients called Sodium Azide. It was indicated that the toxic chemical could lead to hospitalization and complications from low blood pressure. So out of curiosity, I researched the ingredients that should have been on the box or at least within it. No information is provided in the kits. An online search eventually led to a Safety Dat...
For 200 years every vaccine that has ever been given to humans has contained the virus, bacteria or protein (THE ANTIGEN) against which the immune system responds by the production of antibodies. It is time-tested technology. The COVID vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) are the first exceptions to the use of this standard antigen vaccine process. The COVID vaccines do not contain antigen. The COVID vaccines contain a man-made GENE (RNA). They are “gene therapy”. The injected RNA hijacks the human cells’ protein manufacturing system which produces th...
Just a note to let you know how much I appreciated Dale Terrillion’s Passages column in the Pathfinder’s Feb. 17 issue. I agree with both him and John Wesley regarding Christian denominations. It continues to be my belief that what Satan has used to divide the church, God has used to grow the church. Just as the Talmud is a book of Jewish tradition, denominational differences are often based on Christian tradition. Jesus often corrected the Pharisees for mistaking their traditions for God’s intent. The simple fact of salvation is recor...
While the injection of over 10 billion doses of a virus gene into hundreds of millions of people using a technology first used in humans in a small-scale clinical trial less than 10 years ago and without any long-term safety data is undoubtedly the largest and most risky biology experiment ever conducted on this earth; I must admit that I inadvertently failed to use the government-approved terminology for “EUA” in my response to Marshall last week. The official term for the FDA’s authorization for the use of this gene therapy in the Unite...
Montana’s beautiful, expansive public lands are what make this state the “last best place.” Senator Jon Tester’s Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act (BCSA) is a groundbreaking piece of legislation that vows to protect some of the most beloved public spaces to Montanans: The Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Blackfoot River. Public lands are vital to the physical, mental and economic health of Montanans. In fact, 75% of Montanans support the BCSA and 89% of Montanans say outdoor recreation is vital to their quality of life. The BCSA advocat...
SEELEY LAKE – I took a tumble around 5-6K into the OSCR ski marathon at the end of January. I broke my hip and am very grateful to Tim Hoag and his Search and Rescue crew that day (Joe Miller, Dan Johnson and John Baker) for pulling me out of there on a sled. They were very skilled at getting me moved as comfortably as possible. Thanks also to your Fire Chief Dave Lane and the ambulance crew that met us down on Highway 83. Lynn Carey, the race director now for 30 some years, organized the whole rescue and broke a trail for us out the west g...
In my guest column printed in the Jan. 27 and Feb. 3 issues of the Pathfinder, I only addressed the issue about whether the vaccine can prevent transmission – it cannot. My letter said nothing about the efficacy (reducing symptoms) and safety (as yet not fully understood). That parenthetical comment about safety is warranted for two undisputed reasons: 1. Because the full safety packages have not been submitted to the FDA by either Pfizer or Moderna, and 2. The CDC’s own database called the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System or VAERS lis...
I would like to add a clarification to Mike Marshall’s letter regarding COVID-19 statistics from the Feb. 17 issue. Regardless of where Mike got his information, it was lacking and misleading. This so called vaccine is not your annual flu vaccine you have been taking all of your life. And per Dr. Fauci, the medical definition of unvaccinated persons is any person not current on his/her shots and boosters. So if you got one shot last year and no others, you are considered medically unvaccinated. It matters not how many shots or boosters you have...
SEELEY LAKE - Michael and I have lived here in Seeley for several years now. Like everyone we have had good years and not so good years but none as challenging as 2021. The events of this last year have caused us to be even more thankful to be blessed enough to live in such a place as this. We both have had surgeries with extended recovery times. Michael is our main source of income and even though he’s been doing small jobs it’s been quite overwhelming. We could never express our gratitude enough to the many members of this incredible com...
The Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act is a piece of legislation that needs immediate attention. This legislation would help secure the peace of the Blackfoot River by permanently protecting its most crucial tributaries. This bill will not only provide a protection of important ecosystems but it will please a large diverse group of stakeholders that care about protecting the Blackfoot. The stakeholders that will benefit include fly fishermen, hunter/anglers, backpackers, local business owners, environmentalist, biologists, ranch/farm owners...
