Reasons many oppose Jesus' one, true Faith: • Free will....whoever does not gather with Me scatters" (Luke 11:14-[23]). Without remaining with Jesus in His sacraments, whereby we obey His commandments, "we can do nothing" fruitful in His eyes (John 15:1-[5]-27). • Unbelief. Why would Jesus establish one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church, where He would always be with us in His sacraments, if He didn't intend that we join Him there, see Matthew 28:16-[20]? Our participation is commanded by Je...
Summer is here, and we’re speeding toward what could be a gnarly fire season. This means a few things: 1. Don’t cause fires. 2. Get outside and recreate while the recreating’s good. 3. Make a plan now for creating cleaner indoor air and protecting your health from wildfire smoke! Aside from a smoky week in September 2020, we’ve skated by with little wildfire smoke for the past few years, so some of us may be out of practice when it comes to fussing about air quality. New to the area? Welcome! Go buy an air filter. Our summers are hotter...
Editor’s Note: Howard Copenhaver of Ovando wrote this in 1994. Copenhaver was 89 when he died in 2004. Howard’s daughter Sue Copenhaver Lapka gave permission to reprint this article in full. Before I can say much about “leaving no trace” in the wilderness, I want to give you an idea of where I am coming from to be able to form any opinion. My idols as a small boy were “old kid young,” Joe Stattler, Smokie Deneau, also Tom Danaher along with the Preaust boys, all of whose names are embedded in the Bob Marshal Wilderness and Scapegoat W...
Here a while back I was talk'n to Paul Ossowski. Hadn't talked to him in over 20 years. He's over in Eastern Montana now. Has a good job in an oil field. You all may not remember him, he's the one I sold that black mustang to named Shadow, he had a dry freeze brand on his hip 9360. Paul worked, at that time, I believe for the Heart Bar Heart Ranch out of Ovando. He remembered the time right after he got 9360 how the horse got away from him there in the yard where he lived. Followed Shadow around...
I know why the left wing Democrats, left media, big tech and the swamp can’t open their own door. It is because their Pinocchio nose is longer than their arm from all the lies they tell. So sad. We were a color-blind America until the radical left got power. Democratic run states are teaching critical race theory. Indoctrinating our children, colleges, the military and businesses to hate American’s founding fathers, our Constitution, our gun rights, free speech, rule of law and equal justice under the law. Sounds like communism to me. I am espe...
Ah, the holidays. The Fourth has grown on me over the years, it hasn't always been one of my very favorite holidays. Christmas and Easter are always special. The simplicity of Thanksgiving is extra sweet, gathering to break bread and give thanks. But July 4th is more and more remarkable to me as each year goes by. There is a feeling that summer is now finally in full swing. Locals and visitors gather for the parades, brats and burgers with friends and extended families. But it's more than that....
As the COVID 19 pandemic is finally coming to an end, we can now see a light at the end of the tunnel. Businesses are fully open; visitors are coming back to our community and people are just excited to live life again. However, our community still has some critical needs. Many of our neighbors are experiencing isolation and loneliness due to the long-term quarantine period and struggling with declining health and mobility issues. We are fortunate to live in a community where our neighbors are...
“5 Let your gentleness show in your treatment of all people. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. 7 Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:5-7, CEB) Over the years I have noticed how entangled anxiety and defensiveness are. Some of the most highly defensive people I have encountered are also the m...
Summer is in full bloom. Across the West, our natural areas are experiencing unprecedented visitation. With things opening up and more people traveling farther from home, this trend is only expected to increase. Montana’s forestlands are no exception. Higher numbers of campers, bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts will have an impact on our lands and the wildlife that depend on them. We remind everyone to treat the landscape respectfully and follow posted regulations. Watch out for those campfires, stay on the trail and please pack out what y...
I just love June. It is a time of recognition, hope and celebration: the traditions of graduation, Father's Day and weddings. This is a time we can reflect on the potential impact we might have on other people. Reading last week's Pathfinder honoring the kindergarteners, eighth graders and high school graduates just warmed my heart. I enjoyed the diplomas and the honors, the proud families and the excitement for next steps. I am grateful for the teachers who are retiring after long careers of...
In comparison to many subdivisions in Western Montana, Double Arrow Ranch is a senior citizen. Opened in phases between 1973 and 1978, it coincided with Montana’s first attempt to regulate such developments, with the Subdivision and Platting Act of July 1, 1973. The earliest parts of the ranch turn 48 years old this year, and soon will reach the age of 50, where people, places and events are considered historic! The residential Ranch of today is a legacy of Seeley Lake’s first dude ranch dating from 1929, the original Double Arrow Ranch. Est...
As we approach the Fourth of July, I cannot help but think of where we as a country have received the blessings that we have. Actually, not from where, but from Whom. The “whys and wherefores” are an ongoing debate for some but one thing that is irrefutable is the singular prominence of faith and dependence upon God and His Word with which the majority of the Founding Fathers based virtually everything they did, not only in their personal lives but also inveterately within their framing of this new nation. As but one quote of many, John Adams w...
I love the four seasons. Each one has special meaning and opportunity. Fall is hunting which I love, have always loved. Yes, I continue each fall to pursue meat for the freezer. Also football, basketball, leaves turning gold, orange and softly falling from the trees, preparing to take a long snooze. Winter is clear and crisp with gorgeous snow or can't-see-a-thing blizzards! Skiing, snowmobiles and icy roads but beautiful none the less. We need the snow to provide the moisture for spring....
Over the course of the past several months, especially with COVID-19 hovering and bringing us relentless malaise, it has become clear that living in this gorgeous area has been a blessing beyond words. There are many reasons we choose to live in the fourth largest state with just over a million inhabitants: we love the great outdoors and we love having all the beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers, ponds, meadows - and so much more - to roam. With the long, long, long and cold winter finally behind us, and the ice rink at Seeley Lake Elementary...
Mid-June is smack dab in the middle between two patriotic holidays: Memorial Day and Independence Day. Both of these commemorate past times and heroes of our country, as well as the ongoing freedoms enjoyed and ongoing sacrifices made for those freedoms. Recently, Israel has been in the news over a serious, violent conflict with their neighbors in the Gaza Strip as well as violent rioting and conflict on their own streets between Jews and Palestinians. Considering the situation in the Middle East, and our life here in the United States, I have...
Leaving Mosquito Lake and head'n down to Sullivan River, we rode with gutsy Leo in his 14-foot Boston Whaler. Ya'll remember Leo? He killed the griz that attacked him in that compromised position. Leo was in charge, only me and Butch to start the cutt'n. Boy that boat ride in that rip tide about beat us to death. Leo had his D-6 there and stiff leg (walk logs to tie the log raft to) all set up. Van truck with all his tools, chokers, etc, emergency food and in the corner a 30-06. Leo sezs, "Boys...
The Seeley Lake State Parks have two new AmeriCorps members this season! AmeriCorps is a national service program that was formally created in 1993 with the signing of the National and Community Service Trust Act. This bill united multiple service programs under one umbrella, making it easier for Americans to volunteer their time to improve their country. Prospective AmeriCorps members register with the AmeriCorps system, search for open placements within government agencies, non-profits and...
If you wanted to go on a trip to Seattle today, would you be able to drop everything and make it there and back okay? Before going, you would have to check to make sure you have fuel, money, a decent car, and food and water along the way. This is called counting the cost. To count the cost is to see if you can finish something before you start it. This journey of following Christ is no different. Before committing to Christ and picking up your cross are you able to complete it through to the...
Sadly, during the misguided war in Vietnam, we subjected thousands of our young men and women to a senseless war, putting them at risk of bodily harm and death for a failed international policy of containing communism. The policy was bankrupt from the start. But that wasn’t the worst part of it. Compounding the misguided waging of war was the waking up of America to the idiocy of said war and the tragedy of the sacrifice of so many lives and limbs to it. The reaction in too many instances was for Americans to punish the soldiers instead of t...
SEELEY LAKE - Voters unanimously defeated a $35-million albatross sewer proposal but the message seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Now the Sewer Board wants to charge resident homeowners $250/year for each parcel in the district. Many residences sit on two, even three parcels so the owners will be paying $500-750 a year for what? Stuff the County Health Department should have been doing from the get-go If the Missoula County Health Department would do its job we wouldn’t even NEED a Sewer District Board. The Board has FAILED to properly m...
The Democratic party chose the donkey as the symbol of their party. They chose well. It fits them. Biden came into office through cheating. Immediately he costs thousands of Americans their jobs. Biden has cost many Americans and illegal aliens their lives because of his border criminal agenda. Biden panders to Russia, China and Iran, our enemies, and Biden sent money to Iran our enemy who used it to help Hamas terrorists bomb Israel our ally. The donkey fits. We better not go against Israel. Biden gave aid to farmers of color but not white...
Along with our gorgeous summer weather, we in the Seeley-Swan Valley have something to celebrate! Seniors who are 60 years of age and older, residents of Missoula County and meet federal income guidelines (one-person household maximum monthly income = $1,986; two-person household maximum monthly income = $2,686; three-person household maximum monthly income = $3,386), qualify to receive $50 worth of coupons to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables through 2021 Senior Farmers'...
Community-wide giving campaigns are a growing trend in the nonprofit world. ‘Giving days’ wrapped up in most of the bigger cities around Montana in early May. The Seeley Lake Community Foundation is now running our month-long community giving campaign (the Change Your Pace Challenge) for the month of June. Let’s take a deeper look into this popular form of philanthropy. Giving Tuesday (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving) is the most well-known giving day in the US. It was formed in 2012 as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the p...
1 Peter 4:1-2, “Therefore, since Messiah suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so that he no longer lives the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men but according to the desire/will of Elohim.” You would not have any chance for redemption if Yeshua had ignored Torah the way that most ignore Torah/The Will of Elohim. The Messiah and the few will be set apart to do the will of the Father. Whereas the many will be locked up in great religious darknes...
SEELEY LAKE - With the departure of snow on the Dog Town trail, the residual of snow plowing and graveling was most evident. Tuesday, May 8, the Missoula County road crew swept the whole trail from the Dog Town bridge to Highway 83. I’m sure that we speak for the many kids (young and old) who walk, bike, scooter and skateboard on the trail that we are all very happy that the winter “leftovers” are now gone and we have a nice shiny, clean trail. Yeah!!...
