    Reminder - Use Common Sense, Be Safe this Fourth Local emergency officials are asking everyone to use common sense this Fourth of July. Fireworks are prohibited on state and federal lands.     Some Seeley District Roads Remain Closed Due to Flooding SEELEY LAKE - Roads on the Seeley Lake Ranger District are still experiencing impacts from flooding. Several roads continue to have closure orders in place.     Grizzly Bear Killed in the Swan Valley SWAN VALLEY - A black bear hunter shot and killed a grizzly bear in the Swan Valley. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks personnel responded to the incident that occurred May 20 in the Piper Creek drainage in the Swan Valley on U.S. Forest Service land. The hunter, an adult male from Pennsylvania, reported the incident to FWP. The adult male grizzly bear weighed 500 pounds and was approximately 18 years old.     Volunteers Sought to Staff Museum SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Historical Society has run into a snag for being able to staff the museum. The museum will be closed until further notice while a solution for the staffing situation is sought. Volunteers are needed to tend the museum while it is open to visitors. A typical day can be meeting anywhere from two to twenty groups.     Seeley Lake Shelter Available SEELEY LAKE - As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, the American Red Cross opened a shelter in Seeley Lake at Mission Bible Fellowship for those displaced by flooding in or around Seeley Lake. MBF is located on Highway 83 and School Lane. If the shelter is not being used for a 12-hour period, it will not be staffed and put back into standby.     Opening for Placid and Salmon Lake State Parks Delayed Due to Flooding SEELEY LAKE - Montana State Parks delayed the opening of Placid Lake State Park and Salmon Lake State Park due to spring flooding at both sites.     Road Construction on Dunham Road SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Ranger District will be doing road construction on the Dunham Road (#4388) from the end of June through July 15. The contractor will be putting in culverts, creating delays of up to four hours during mid-day.     SLE School Board Approves Levy Amount SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) School Board will run a trustee election and a general fund operating levy of $17,056 or 2.21 mills on the May 3 ballot.     New Trail, Not Ready SEELEY LAKE – The public is asked to refrain from using the trail around the Seeley-Swan High School (SSHS) property for another couple weeks or until the ground dries out.     Register Early for the Snow Joke, Caps Out at 1,000 Runners SEELEY LAKE - After last year’s unprecedented turnout of more than 800 runners, this year’s Snow Joke Half Marathon scheduled in Seeley Lake Feb. 27 looks poised to attract an even bigger field.     Seeley Lake Biathlon Cancelled Due to Lack of Snow SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Biathlon that was supposed to be held Feb. 20 at the Seeley Lake Nordic Trails has been cancelled due to the unseasonably warm weather.     Boat Inspection Station Inspectors Needed SEELEY LAKE - The boat inspection station at Clearwater Junction will be opening earlier this year, under a program run by the Flathead Basin Commission. Inspectors are needed to operate the station from March 1 until Memorial Day, when Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will take over management of the station. The pay is $11/hour.
