State and local public health officials are reminding Montanans to be aware of the risk for exposure to rabies as summer approaches. From 2009 to 2015, 162 animals submitted for testing to the Montana Department of Livestock (DOL) were positive for rabies. Most of the animals were bats, some were skunks, and a few were other wild and domestic animals. Rabies is a fatal disease. SWAN VALLEY - The Whalen homestead cabin is now at home on the Swan Valley museum site. It was located on the Donald property visible from the Kraft Creek road. Sharon Gressle a descendant of the homesteaders along with her relatives donated the cabin and the moving costs to the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society. POTOMAC - The Ten Mile Drivers Club (TMD) from Helena arrived in Potomac May 27. With a recreational permit from the Montana Department of Natural Resources (DNRC), they explored the local forests and roads using horse and mule drawn wagons, carts and mounted riders. SWAN VALLEY - The Swan Valley Regional Planning Committee (SVRPC) meeting held May 26 was led by the new chair Ken Donovan. Edits to the draft regional plan continued focused on recommendations from the Swan Valley school board. SWAN VALLEY - The Mission Mountains Mercantile (Merc) and Swan Valley Real Estate office were destroyed by fire in the early morning hours of May 18. SEELEY LAKE – Seeley Lake resident Robert Kelley took his eight-year-old grandson Noah antler hunting for the first time when the Blackfoot/Clearwater Wildlife Management Area (Game Range) opened May 15. GREENOUGH - On May 9 at approximately 6 p.m. it was discovered that three tractors sitting in the Paws Up field near Hwy 200 at about mile post 28.5 were vandalized. A drill was used to puncture a hole in each of the 24 tires causing more than $26,000 worth of damage. The victim was a private contractor doing work for Paws Up. SEELEY LAKE – On Friday, May 20 someone from out of the area forced entry at a residence north of Seeley Lake on Highway 83. The intruder was stabbed by the resident and later transported to Missoula via ambulance. Charges are pending on the stabbed victim. SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) school board accepted the resignation of Brenda Ashmore and Angela Good from their current positions for the 2016-2017 school year.
