SEELEY LAKE - The Clearwater Resource Council (CRC) sponsored an invasive fragrant waterlily "dig-it" event on Saturday, July 10. The demonstration project on Seeley Lake is being used to test efficacy of removing waterlily rhizomes to reduce the spread of invasive waterlilies on Seeley Lake. Annie said Jeff makes his signs in his woodshop from trees or reclaimed pallet wood from their property. Some of his products are hand painted while others are stenciled on with custom stencils. OVANDO - On Sunday, July 11 at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Dry Cabin Fire was reported and aerial resources were dispatched immediately to size up the fire. The fire is located approximately 20 miles north of Ovando, Montana, in the Scapegoat Wilderness. DNA results received Wednesday confirmed the bear killed by wildlife officials last Friday was the same bear who fatally attacked a camper in Ovando early on the morning of July 6. Due to a wildfire burning about a mile east of Garnet Ghost Town, the Bureau of Land Management has temporarily closed the historic site and surrounding area for public safety and to allow firefighters to conduct suppression activities. SEELEY LAKE - Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) Bear Specialist Jamie Jonkel said he is confused by the recent number of local mother bears abandoning their cubs either permanently or temporarily. SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Sewer District Board adopted a resolution setting the method and assessment to collect taxes for their 2021-22 fiscal year at a hearing June 28.
